How can you better understand your prescription medication?

If you have had to visit your health care provider in Connecticut to get help managing symptoms that have been causing you discomfort, you may have been prescribed some type of medication to facilitate your healing. The success of the treatment that your doctor has recommended will be dependent on your ability to take your medication the correct way.

Understanding how your prescription medication works, what symptoms it should help alleviate, side effects to be aware of, general dosage amounts and other information is imperative to your ability to protect your safety and wellbeing while taking your medication.

According to SpineUniverse, you should listen carefully to your doctor when he describes how you should take the medication. Ask him if any other medications could create an adverse reaction. You may consider writing down what your doctor is saying or have him provide you with a written set of instructions. This information can be compared with the information your pharmacist gives you to verify that you have received the correct drug that is not too potent or too diluted.

If you arrive at the pharmacy and do not remember the instructions your doctor gave you about taking your medication, ask your pharmacist to provide this information. Pharmacists are experienced in dealing with drugs and can provide you with a wealth of helpful information. If you are considering finding creative ways to take your drugs including crushing or mixing it with something else, verify with your pharmacist that this can be done without causing harmful side effects. Finally, be vigilant in observing the dosage amounts and frequency to prevent unnecessary injuries.
